Salmon Fishing

This morning I went salmon fishing with some friends out in the sound. It was a lot of fun. The sun was out, the water was smooth and best part of the whole fishing trip...I caught a coho salmon! It was only about 6lbs. but hey it's a salmon! We grilled it up on the BBQ for dinner tonight and it was yummy! Nothing better then fresh coho salmon!
Sarah, me and Howie. Here's my fishy!

Chris and Sofie. Check out that big Navy Ship that passed us. It was huge.
Here are Howie's two really big salmon that he caught and my little baby one. Thanks Howie and Heidi for the fun morning out on the boat. I had a great time and can't wait to go again. Steve is going out on the boat with Howie tomorrow morning. I hope he brings home some salmon too!

It's Back to School Again

Our summer officially ended bright and early this morning with our girls heading back to school.
Brooklyn is in the 8th grade this year. This will be her last year as a middle school student and then she will be off to High School next year!
Mackenzie is in the 10th grade (a sophomore) this year. She also started early morning seminary again and it started bright and early at 6:00 a.m.! We have had a really fun summer and now look forward to a beautiful fall!

Looks Who's Driving

Last week we picked up a Washington State drivers handbook so that Mackenzie could start studying for her learners permit test. This morning I took Mackenzie over to the DMV so that she could take the written drivers test.
She studied over the weekend and took one last look on the way over to the DMV!
And...she passed the test! So that means that we now have a teenage driver in our house! Oh my! Here she is with her learners permit that will allow her to drive legally on the roads with me or Steve with her! Preferably Steve!!
Steve told Mackenzie that if she passed the test he would get her her own key to the Honda Accord. Here she is with the key on her new key ring! Right now as I am blogging this entry Mackenzie is out driving on the roads with Steve! It's so much fun having a teenage driver! :-}

Labor Day Weekend Getaway

Last Saturday morning we decided at the last minute to be spontaneous and get away for a couple of days. So we packed up the car and headed over to Port Angeles.
We took the Edmonds ferry over to Kingston - a 30 minute ferry ride.
We stayed at the Red Lion Inn in Port Angeles right on the water. Our room had a gorgeous view of the water. It was fun to watch the big ferry boats going back and forth to Victoria B.C.. In the evening a few sailboats came in and anchored for the night. It was so beautiful.
Mackenzie and Brooklyn by the "Rocktopus" statue.
That evening after we watched the BYU vs OU football game on TV (and BYU won!!) we had reservations for dinner at "Bella Italia". For those of you who are big "Twilight" fans you will know that this is the restaurant where Bella and Edward had their first date. For those of you who are not "Twilight" fans, it is a nice slightly over-priced Italian restaurant in Port Angeles.
Here is Brooklyn and Steve at dinner- or is that Brooklyn and Vampire Edward! Gosh a nice fancy restaurant and Steve is acting up!
After dinner we went to the grocery store and picked up some Dreyer's Rocky Road ice cream and enjoyed it back in our hotel room!
Sunday morning we went to church in Port Angeles and then went back to our hotel room and had a picnic lunch. After lunch we packed up the car and headed out for a drive over to the city of Forks. On the way over to Forks we drove by Crescent Lake which was gorgeous.
The welcome sign at Forks! It was pouring down rain so none of us wanted to get out of the nice warm car to stand by the sign! Forks High School - where Bella and Edward went to school! Mackenzie by Bella's truck!
At the Forks hospital they have a parking spot just for Dr. Cullen. Here is the sign to prove it! And once again...who invited vampire Steve to join us on our little getaway? All he did was make fun of us Twilight fans!

We got home late Sunday evening. We sure had a great time and it was fun to get away and do one last hurrah before school starts.

Broadway show - Wicked

Last night we went to see the Broadway production of Wicked at the Paramount theatre in downtown Seattle. We purchased our tickets back in February and have been looking forward to going it see it ever since then. This was Steve, Mackenzie and Brooklyn's first time seeing it.
Outside the theatre before the show
Brooklyn and Mackenzie waiting for the show to start.
Shopping at the "Oz Dust Boutique"! Mackenzie and Brooklyn each bought a cute Wicked t-shirt.
We purchased our tickets with a bunch of friends from church so that we could get a group discount. After the show we took this picture of Mackenzie and Brooklyn with the Jorgensen kids. The whole Jorgensen family dressed up for the show. The boys all wore green ties and Janet and Freja wore green tights. They looked so cute!
We can hardly wait to see you at church Sunday in your green ties and green tights! :-}
Yesterday morning when Mackenzie and Brooklyn were getting ready to make themselves breakfast they noticed that the gallon of milk in the fridge was green! They were brave enough to pour themselves a big glass of it for breakfast. We are hoping that it wasn't that "Wicked - green elixir" that Elphaba's mother drank that made Elphaba's skin turn green! So far Mackenzie and Brooklyn's skin hasn't turned green yet! We sure had a great time last night. Nothing is better then great entertainment and spending the evening with family and friends. We are looking forward to doing it again soon.
